Pitso Mosimane is good enough to become next Nigeria coach

Mosimane is currently coach of Al-Ahly SC

The Al Ahli Saudi fc coach, and former Bafana Bafana Manager has been linked with the Super eagles job in recent days, with Rumors swirling around even claiming that he is favourite to replace Jose Peseiro, who has had an underwhelming spell in charge of the Nigerian national team. In spite of the skepticism of some Nigerians to the reception of the news, his antecedents prove that he is eminently qualified and possesses the requisite expertise to coach the Super eagles.

Widely regarded as the most successful coach in the history of South African football, Pitso Mosimane enjoyed domestic success in South Africa by winning five PSL titles and the 2016 CAF Champions League title with Mamelodi Sundowns. In his eight-year tenure with the Brazilians, he enhanced his profile and burgeoning reputation by conquering uncharted territory; going on to create history with North African giants Al Ahly of Egypt by becoming their first ever Non-Egyptian African coach - making his mark there by winning two consecutive CAF champions league titles, in addition to reaching the semi finals and winning bronze at the FIFA club world cup twice.

In his brief but successful stint in Egypt, Mosimane played a brand of football that endeared the fans and inspired confidence in the team. Egypt and Al Ahly legend Mohamed Aboutrika recently reflected on Mosimane's time at the club by speaking glowingly about the South African tactician, calling him "one of the greatest" coaches in the history of the club. And that is an apt evaluation of the coaching prowess of the man, who was ranked as the 10th best coach in the world in 2016 by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS).

In his subsequent assignment in Saudi Arabia, he has taken Al-Ahli from the doldrums of relegation to the second tier, and sprung them back up to the Saudi Pro league at the first attempt, whilst also topping the log in the division.

If there will be a replacement for José Peseiro, it has to be a coach with a proven track record of success, in addition to a winning spirit that has been sorely lacking in recent times from the Nigerian camp. Coach Pitso Mosimane typifies these virtues. With his aforementioned honours and achievements, who is to say Pitso Mosimane is not worth a shot at the Super eagles job? He is very much worth his weight in gold. He has so far had a very distinguished coaching career, littered with honours and successes everywhere he has been. The same cannot be said about José Peseiro.
